Erik’s Ranch & Retreats is a mission-driven, non-profit guest ranch offering unforgettable stays, horseback riding experiences, and community engagement in stunning Paradise Valley. We are seeking a skilled Ranch Hand with strong horsemanship abilities to join our on-site team. This role blends hands-on ranch work, property upkeep, animal care, and guest interaction — perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working outdoors.
 


Key Responsibilities


Equine Care & Horsemanship

  • Feed, water, groom, and monitor the health and behavior of ranch horses
  • Safely tack, saddle, and prepare horses for guided rides and lessons
  • Assist with riding programs, including guest instruction, trail preparation, and safety checks
  • Exercise horses to maintain fitness and temperament
  • Maintain clean and organized barns, tack rooms, and riding areas
  • Support the creation of new horse experiences (groundwork, driving, trail programs)

General Ranch Operations

  • Perform routine maintenance on ranch buildings, guest cabins, barns, fences, and equipment
  • Operate and maintain tractors, UTVs, mowers, and snow-removal equipment
  • Complete minor repairs involving carpentry, plumbing, or electrical troubleshooting
  • Conduct daily property checks and ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality of all areas
  • Support irrigation, landscaping, weed management, and winter maintenance tasks
  • Assist with general hospitality needs, guest questions, and onsite problem-solving
  • Coordinate with the Ranch Manager and staff to maintain an inclusive, positive environment for members, guests, volunteers, and coworkers

 


Qualifications


Required

  • Strong horsemanship skills, with experience riding, training, or assisting in guest or lesson programs
  • Previous ranch, farm, or property maintenance experience
  • Ability to safely handle horses of varying temperaments
  • Comfort operating ranch machinery and tools
  • Ability to perform physical, outdoor labor in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred

  • Experience leading or supporting guided rides or riding lessons
  • Background in equine health, farrier work, or western/trail riding
  • Carpentry, mechanical, or electrical repair experience
  • Prior work in hospitality or guest service

 


Compensation & Benefits

 

  • Salary: $32,000 – $38,000 DOE
  • Housing: Free on-site housing at Erik’s Ranch (private bedroom)
